On December 25th, China Energy Engineering Group announced that it had completed an in-situ test of large-scale artificial cavern gas storage in Changsha, setting a new world record for operation duration and reliability in this field.

The test successfully completed the verification of the world's highest level of 18 MPa ultra-high pressure gas storage and ultra-long cycle "500 hours" continuous stable operation, with a daily leakage rate of less than one in a thousand, setting a new world record for operation duration and reliability in this field.

Wan Mingzhong, chief expert of China Energy Engineering Group, said that this means that China has completed the most important part of its large-scale compressed air energy storage layout, setting a benchmark for the high-end development of compressed air energy storage globally.

The solution for the artificial chamber gas storage system released by China Energy Engineering Group has achieved breakthroughs in key sealing technology, intelligent operation and maintenance, operation and maintenance support, engineering application, and value extension. It greatly expands the site selection range of compressed air energy storage projects, is suitable for the construction of gas storage under various complex geological conditions in China, and can effectively support the layout of compressed air energy storage with characteristics such as high power, large scale, and strong grid construction, making the construction of large-scale compressed air energy storage in "sandy and barren" areas a reality. This technology has been applied in the world's first (set) 300 MW compressed air energy storage project in Jiuquan, Gansu Province.
